The Third Grave: the new gripping crime thriller from the New York Times bestselling author for 2021 by [Lisa Jackson]

Amongst the ruins of the old Beaumont mansion lies a terrible secret. In the cellar are three graves – but only two skeletons. They belong to Holly and Poppy Duval who disappeared 20 years ago. But where is their missing youngest sister?

Detective Pierce Reed is assigned to the case, which becomes complicated by his reporter wife, Nikki, trying to get the scoop on the ground-breaking new find. As Reed and Nikki start to piece together what really happened all those years ago, it becomes clear that the killer is anything but finished.

And the question remains – where is Rose Duval?

A return to fan-favourite characters Pierce Reed and Nikki Gillette, The Third Grave is an atmospheric, twisty psychological thriller perfect for fans of Harlan Coben and Patricia Cornwell.

The Third Grave

Bronco Craven’s grandfather had been the gardener at the crumbling Beaumont mansion in its heyday, and when he was dying, he told Bronco about hidden treasure in the old place. For Bronco, it was too good to pass up on. The place had been empty for a while. So he took his tools to break in, and take a look, along with any goodies that he could find there. What he found shook him up badly. Hidden away were three graves and the remains of two bodies. Although Bronco was a petty crook himself, he couldn’t let this go, so he did something he had never done before. He reported the crime to the police.

Twenty years ago, three sisters had gone to the cinema together and then disappeared. It was obvious that two of them had been murdered, but where was the youngest? The grave was there, but the body was missing. Detective Pierce Reed was put in charge of the investigation. Reed’s wife Nikki, was an author of thrillers and determined to break into crime reporting for a big newspaper. The only thing with her is she only sees the glory and not the danger, which has tragic consequences.

Nikki makes the story unpredictable because you never know just what she will get up to. She did take some warming to for me. It seems that people were hiding what they knew, but much more than I realised. I enjoyed the story as there were some very twisty outcomes that I hadn’t a clue would happen.

I wish to thank the publisher and Net Galley for an e-copy of this book, which I have reviewed honestly.
