10 SUMMERS AGO: Alex discovers his fear of flying on the way to Vancouver.
Poppy holds his hand the whole way.
7 SUMMERS AGO: They get far too drunk and narrowly avoid getting matching tattoos in New Orleans.
2 SUMMERS AGO: It all goes wrong.
THIS SUMMER: Poppy asks Alex to join her on one last trip. A trip that will determine the rest of their lives.
You and Me on Vacation is a love story for fans of When Harry Met Sally and One Day. Get ready to travel the world, snort with laughter and – most of all – lose your heart to Poppy and Alex.
Poppy and Alex have nothing in common and go out of their way to avoid each other while at college. A year passes until they are brought together for a car share to travel across the country, and an unusual friendship begins. Their friendship blooms, and so every year, they meet up for a vacation.
Poppy works for a travel magazine. She is outgoing, adventurous and impulsive, while Alex is a teacher, reserved and cautious. Everything works for the first ten years, but something happens, so they call an end to the holidays’ and their friendship. Two years pass before Poppy contacts Alex again.
What a great story this is! Its laugh out loud moments are brilliant. You know that they are coming, especially when new characters come into the story, but everything is unpredictable. The story plays out on different timelines, from the present day to years gone by and the hilarious situations they get into. The story works up to the year when everything fell apart.
These two are the stars of the story, with the others characters playing secondary roles. There is so much more to consider than just enjoying each others company. They live miles apart from each other, both have careers, their friends and their families. It is about risking everything. They have only ever known each other on vacation.
What a great love story, with belly, laughs all the way.
I wish to thank Net Galley and the publisher for an e-copy of this book which I have reviewed honestly.
