Actress Derry O’Donnell, moonlighting as fortune-teller Madam Tulip, finds herself in a famous pop singer’s entourage. But at the star’s glittering birthday party in the Dublin mountains, Derry finds a band riven by rivalries and feuds. Behind the trouble is a mysterious Russian guru, a shaman hated by everyone but the singer whose life she dominates.
When the shaman mysteriously disappears, suspicion threatens to tear the band apart. Was she victim or poisoner? Guilty or innocent? Dead or alive?
Two brilliant and beautiful musicians; an ambitious band manager with a shady past; a sax player entranced by Vikings–each has a secret to share and a request for Madam Tulip.
HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS AND REVIEW
Derry O’Donnell returns for her fourth outing as fortune-teller Madam Tulip as part of the evening entertainment for the birthday of Mia the lead singer in a very successful Irish band. Everyone is eager to talk to Madam Tulip especially Mia. The singer relies heavily on the words of a Russian guru, a shaman who seems to have gone missing. She wants Madam Tulip to find her as it seems that every decision that she makes is run through her. Now she is a bag of nerves and very distressed. When the singer suddenly becomes ill during the reading, foul play is soon found to be the cause and the obvious suspicions fall on the guru.
When Derry is offered a contract to be on call at any time for the band she simply cannot turn down the extra cash. This puts Derry in the heart of finding out what has happened to the missing guru. The story really takes off and I absolutely loved it even more. The characters in this story held so many surprises and shocks for me giving me heart in my mouth moments. This is one super read, the best in the series so far.
These books are of the cosy mystery variety and make brilliant entertaining reading. Madam Tulip is a superb character that is finding her confidence more in each of the books. The humour is delightful and light, that brought a smile and at times made me chuckle. Derry doesn’t just have her clients problems to contend with but also that of her estrange parents that still work together through their careers. They are not your standard mum and dad which makes them very entertaining.
A super addition to this winning series of cosy all-round entertaining mysteries. Love Madam Tulip!
HERE, IS A LITTLE ABOUT THE AUTHOR
David Ahern grew up in a theatrical family in Ireland but ran away to Scotland to become a research psychologist and sensible person. He earned his doctorate but soon absconded to work in television. He became a writer, director and producer, creating international documentary series and winning numerous awards, none of which got him free into nightclubs.
Madam Tulip wasn’t David Ahern’s first novel, but writing it was the most fun he’d ever had with a computer. He is now writing the fourth Madam Tulip adventure and enjoys pretending this is actual work.
David Ahern lives in the beautiful West of Ireland with his wife, two cats and a vegetable garden of which he is inordinately proud.
