Firstly I wish to thank the Author for inviting me on this Blog Tour to read and review his latest book release, TORMENT by Mark Tilbury.
Who can you really trust?
Beth Cruikshank couldn’t be happier. She is eight weeks pregnant and married to the man of her dreams. But after returning home from a celebratory meal, she finds a wreath from her sister’s grave hanging above the bed and a kitchen knife embedded in her pillow. There are no signs of a forced entry. Nothing is stolen. And no one other than the cleaner has a key to the house.
And then a campaign of terror begins. Beth becomes increasingly paranoid as it becomes clear that someone close to the family is behind these disturbing events.
But who would want Beth dead?
Can Beth find the answer before it’s too late?
Torment is a story of misplaced loyalty, revenge and sacrifice.
HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS AND REVIEW
Every time that I read a Mark Tilbury book it is like discovering a new author time and time again. All his characters are fresh, the plot unique and the guaranteed thrill from a different angle. The only thing that they have in common is how addictive they are and so impossible to put down.
Beth and David seem to have it all, jobs they love and a beautiful home but they have seen hard times. Beth never really got over the death of her sister when they were children and the couple has just found out that they are having a baby, after already miscarrying three previous pregnancies. So they have a bit of sparkle about them that this may be their turning point.
When they return home after an evening out they make a horrid discovery, a wreath on the door and a knife through Beth’s pillow. The police can seem to do little to help, so Beth turns to find an ear to listen to her fears in her best friend Kim. Kim has her own problems, living in an abusive relationship so with David working long hours and at times away from home the solution seems to be for Kim to move in with them.
Mark Tilbury certainly packs the pages with growing tension as the invasion into Beth’s life increases and moves onto the next level. I love that he isn’t afraid to express his female characters to the fullest and how every situation will affect them in the story. I am always taken by surprise at how far he pushes the characters, I did work out who but not the why.
As soon as I pick up this author’s books I know that I should sit with my back firmly against the wall so that I don’t have to glance over my shoulder at what’s behind me. He really knows how to creep me out. Oh boy, the last few chapters were definitely read with one eye closed. I wanted to know what was happening but didn’t want to see either.
HERE IS A LITTLE ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Mark lives in a small village in the lovely county of Cumbria, although his books are set in Oxfordshire where he was born and raised.
After being widowed and raising his two daughters, Mark finally took the plunge and self-published two books on Amazon, The Revelation Room and The Eyes of the Accused.
He’s always had a keen interest in writing, and is extremely proud to have had seven novels published by Bloodhound Books, including his most recent release, Torment.
When he’s not writing, Mark can be found playing guitar, reading and walking.
