The Progeny: A Novel (Descendants of the House of Bathory Book 1) by [Lee, Tosca]

BOOK DESCRIPTION

New York Times bestselling author Tosca Lee brings a modern twist to an ancient mystery surrounding Elizabeth Bathory, the most notorious female serial killer of all time.

Emily Jacobs is the descendant of a serial killer. Now, she’s become the hunted.

She’s on a quest that will take her to the secret underground of Europe and the inner circles of three ancient orders—one determined to kill her, one devoted to keeping her alive, and one she must ultimately save.

Filled with adrenaline, romance, and reversals, The Progeny is the present-day saga of a 400-year-old war between the uncanny descendants of “Blood Countess” Elizabeth Bathory, the most prolific female serial killer of all time, and a secret society dedicated to erasing every one of her descendants. It is a story about the search for self filled with centuries-old intrigues against the backdrop of atrocity and hope.

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS AND REVIEW

This story is mixed with an account from the history books, the story of Elizabeth Bathory, who was said to be an Hungarian noble woman who was also a serial killer between 1590-1609, murdering over 650 people.

In the story Elizabeth’s line of descendants are hunted down by decendants of the victims that were killed by her. Audra Ellison is one of her line and taken drastic measures to cover up remembering who she is, the only thing is now she wants to know why? When two different men approach her to tell her that the other is going to kill her she has to make a choice and hope for the best. If she is wrong then she will die.

This sounds more complex than it is but parts in the book are gone over more than once so all the information sinks in. This is a really good plot, a mix of sort of cult members of a secret society and the church, with a real cat and mouse story through Europe, leaving a body trail behind. The list is shorter than ever of the survivors of the Bathory line.

Instructions have been passed down through the ages both to the hunted and the hunters, where it is possible to literally get away with murder. A real great plot that would make a cracking film.

I wish to thank Mickey Mikkleson of Creative Edge Publicity for inviting me to read this ebook which I have reviewed honestly.
