Firstly I wish to thank Dave Dawson for inviting me on the Blog tour for DEAR MR. POP STAR by Derek and Dave Philpott
BOOK DEWSCRIPTION
For more than a decade, Derek Philpott and his son, Dave, have been writing to pop stars from the 1960s to the 90s to take issue with the lyrics of some of their best-known songs. But then, to their great surprise, the pop stars started writing back… Dear Mr Pop Star contains 100 of Derek and Dave’s greatest hits, including correspondence with Katrina and the Waves, Tears for Fears, Squeeze, The Housemartins, Suzi Quatro, Devo, Deep Purple, Nik Kershaw, T’Pau, Human League, Eurythmics, Wang Chung, EMF, Mott the Hoople, Heaven 17, Jesus Jones, Johnny Hates Jazz, Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine, Chesney Hawkes and many, many more.

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS AND REVIEW
Now before I begin I do have to say that this is the most funniest and surreal book that I have ever read. Where have you been till now Derek and Dave? Ok I know there is a previous book but why am I just hearing of it? These two authors, I say with tongue in cheek, are either idiots and pure geniuses. Personally I am going with the latter simply because I love this book! This is just so darn hilarious. To take a lyric of a song by The Viscounts, ‘Who put the Bomp, in the Bomp, Bomp, Bomp’. Would rise a question to the said artist, via a letter from this wickedly humourous duo, asking for an explanation of the said lyrics.
There is a trail of top of the bill board stars that seem like they were queuing up to receive a letter from the pair, like a secret club of ‘You haven’t made it until you get one’, sort of thing. Pure brilliance gentlemen. These letters, which just rip the lyrics apart of songs that I have been crooning away to for years, had me crying with laughter and the replies, from each of the artists are just as barmy. It isn’t just the letters and replies that make these so funny but the actual style they write in. Each done, both to and from the artist with beautiful penmanship in all seriousness.
This is a book that I will read again and again but don’t think for a minute that although there are just letters and replies page after page and nothing else, that you will be able to pick this book up to just read one or two because it will always be just one more. I am sure that if you danced away to the music of the 1980’s and 90’s there will be little belters you remember fondly. The artists are of such fame though I am certain that they would be recognised by todays youth too, especially if attending the disco type wedding evening dos’ where the D.Js are caught in a time warp of Human League and Rick Astley. Did I just put them in the same sentence?
Honestly this is a tremendous read which definitely has more than 5 stars in it!
I wish to thank Dave Dawson for an e-copy of this book which I have reviewed honestly.
