HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS AND REVIEW
Having read most of Seb Kirby’s novels I have come to expect a high standard of both story line and detailed research and boy this book is just the bees knees! From the prologue, the story held me like a rabbit in head lights because I couldn’t look away. I didn’t want to look away. The young girl, Jenny, didn’t live in the basement accommodation with Emma but in the night she would come out of the shadows just to say silently that she was there before she returned into the dark again. Whoa, I thought that is something you don’t see every day. Did I want to know more, darn right I did!
Emma is a journalist and one that has got her teeth into trying to re-open a court case against Brian Cooper. A convicted child killer that is serving life behind bars. There is just something that makes Emma believe in him and believe that the real killer is still free. Now if you think that this sounds good well honestly that is just the touch-paper to one explosive story line. It is brilliant! Did I for one minute think it was going to go where it did. Not once! I was just like no, No, NO!
Emma’s digging didn’t throw light on the old case, it took her into a much darker and frightening place. Emma is a determined gutsy lady, while I was bricking it in broad day light curled up on the sofa. I had to read this book in one sitting as each chapter took me nearer to the truth. But could I handle the truth? Could she? There are a lot of characters in the story, some from the past and some present day but each clearly defined. Some people didn’t hide in the shadows like Jenny, they hid in plain sight.
This is, in my opinion, Seb Kirby’s best novel yet. He is a master of intrigue with his story lines and a perfectionist with his research. Brilliant book!
