As Good As Gold by Patricia Furstenberg @PatFurstenberg #BlogTour #AsGoodAsGold #Dogs #Poems #Animals

Firstly I wish to thank author Patricia Furstenberg for inviting me on the Blog Tour for her latest delightful book AS GOOD AS GOLD

As engaging as a tail wag

Celebrating the simple things in life as seen through the eyes of our old time favourite furry friends, “As Good as Gold” is a volume of poetry revealing the talent and humour we always knew our dogs possessed.

Dogs are full of questions, yet they are famed sellers of innocence especially when it comes to explaining their mishaps and often foolish effervescence through ponderings such as “Why IS a Cat Not Like a Dog”, “As Brown as Chocolate”, “Silver Stars and Puppy Tail” or, best yet, “Dog or Book?”

A book with an enormous heart for readers of all ages, it includes 35 poems and haiku accompanied by expressive portraits of our canine friends.

This is a truly delightful and uplifting book of poems through the eyes of mans faith friend and companion, his dog. I often use to look into the eyes of my own dogs and just wonder how they saw the world and well I think Pat Furstenberg has probably come up with the nearest possible answers.

There are groups of poems that come under the different headings of Questions, Colours, Musings and Haiku, with each individual poem beginning with a lovely photo of a canine friend. The poems reflect how each dog sees the world, lively inquisitive questions that roll from the lines in a stream of curiosity that just sums up investigating the world perfectly. Questions that a curious mind haven’t the time to be answered before seeing the next wonder and moving on.

It made me smile and giggle. I just love how the dogs refer to their child companions as ‘their pups’. I really think that there is a special bond between a child and their dog which make the pair inseparable. Both investigating the world together learning and getting into mischief! They reminded me so much of my own little granddaughter and her dog, who are never apart.

These are beautiful poems to be read with a child, by a child or as a pet loving adult. There is something for everyone to relate to. One thing is for sure next time you see a dog bounding round from one thing to another you will think of the different poems and smile I am sure. But it raised a question for me when they look into my eyes are they wondering how I see the world? Another super book!

Patricia Furstenberg came to writing through reading. She always carries a notebook and a pen, although at times she jots down her ideas on the back of till slips or types them on her phone.

Patricia enjoys writing for children because she can take abstract, grown-up concepts and package them in humorous, child-friendly ideas while adding sensitivity and lots of love. What fuels her is an exhilarating need to write and… coffee: “How many cups have had this morning?” “None.” “Plus?” “Five cups.”

Between her books you can find the beloved Joyful Trouble, The Cheetah and the Dog, Puppy, 12 Months of Rhymes and Smiles.

She is a Huffington Post contributor and pens the Sunday Column for as well as dabbing in freelancing. After completing her Medical Degree in Romania she moved to South Africa where she now lives with her husband, children and their dogs.

  1. Dearest Sue, this is a magical, touching review! I feel so bouncy now, that you saw what this book is all about – and the very last question my poems raised for you, “when they look into my eyes are they wondering how I see the world?”- Goodness, I think they do,I think that, in their generous and noble hearts, they know. Why, why else, would they love us unconditionally? I think dogs know that love and family are all that matters 🙂

I am beyond thrilled that you enjoyed As Good As Gold! Thank you for this beautiful review!

Sue, I placed a link to your review from the book tour’s page on my blog:
