BOOK DESCRIPTION

I’m Eddie Collins, a CSI.
Ever had that feeling of being watched but when you turn around no one’s there?
I have.
It was raining, and I was working a murder scene around midnight when that prickle ran up my spine. If I’d listened to that feeling, if I’d thought back to my past, maybe I could have prevented the terror that was to come.
Back at the office, I found a death threat on my desk.
I had no idea who sent it or why they wanted to kill me.
But I was about to find out.

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS AND REVIEW

To be honest I am not really a lover of short stories, but this is a little beauty. This novella can be read as an anytime read along with the already very successful Eddie Collins series or just as a starter because you will want to read more. I don’t really want to say much about the story itself  because it would spoil those Jack-in-a-box moments for you that kept getting me. Yikes such an edgy read, I think that this one even unnerved poor Eddie!

Eddie is a super character very unconventional but with a determination to get not just any collar but to get the right one. He connects with people at ground level but not so much with other CSI and CID that seem to at times come to rather sticky ends if they get too close.  He really isn’t a team player and works far better on his own.

Now what you need to know is this story is set in Leeds Yorkshire and Andrew Barrett the author is a real life CSI in this city, lastly he has an absolutely wicked humour that will make you laugh on the same page as the most violent murder. How I love being inside this man’s head, he is rather cool in a gritty Yorkshire man kinda way.

So all I will say about this book now is someone wants Eddie dead, hence The Note, but when he simply makes everyone want to kill him at some point, it isn’t going to be easy to work out who is coming to make it happen. This is a superb little book that can easily be read in one go, not that you could put it down anyway. Brilliant, just darn Brilliant!

HERE IS A LITTLE ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I write crime thrillers, and have done since 1996, about the same time I became a CSI here in Yorkshire. All of my books are set in or around our biggest city of Leeds. Sometimes I go wandering into the countryside and drag its beauty screaming into the pages of one of my books where it collides with the ugliness of death. I don’t write formulaic crime fiction; each one is hand-crafted and home-grown to give you a unique flavour of what CSIs encounter in real life. Every book is rich with forensic insight but that insight never drowns the story; it’s there to enhance your enjoyment only. My thrillers live inside the police domain; they have detectives and uniformed officers, but they’re predominantly about CSIs (or SOCOs as we used to be known). Come and live with them as they go about their sometimes unenviable tasks, and listen to the language they speak, see the things they see, and experience the emotions they feel. So pull on your nitrile gloves and your face mask, get comfy, and read on.
