Firstly I wish to thank BLOODHOUND BOOKS and Sarah Hardy for inviting me to take part on this BLOG TOUR for GRAHAM SMITH’S WATCHING THE BODIES
When Jake Boulder is asked by his PI friend to help investigate the vicious murder of Kira Niemeyer, he soon finds himself tracking a serial killer who selects his next victim in a most unusual manner.
As the body count rises, Boulder has to work with the police to identify the heinous killer before more lives are taken. What ensues is a twisted game of cat and mouse, that only Boulder or the Watcher can survive. But who will it be?
HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS AND REVIEW
How horrific it is to find out that someone who you knew has been brutally murdered, not just died but actually purposely wiped out. How helpless would you feel? Well Kira Niemeyer was dead, the beautiful daughter of a very influential family in Casperton, Utah. The thing was the family didn’t have an ounce of faith in the useless police force that served under Chief Watson. Not that the Chief was a bad bloke but you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear, quite an apt saying really in relation to the people concerned.
Well Jake Boulder was pretty sweet eye candy at The Joshua Tree where he was Doorman and Bouncer but when needed he supplied the muscle for his Best Bud PI Alfonse and Alfonse had just bagged the murder case in question. Jake had known Kira in the past so it felt very personal to Jake to find this killer. Having made a sweet deal with Chief Watson this duo were ready to go find this killer or so they thought.
The watcher is one of the more brutal killers that I have read about and not to make his killings mundane each was very unique for his entertainment. He had a goal, a real purpose but if it could also get him into the hall of fame to join the notorious killers whose names no one ever forgot, Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy to name a few, then that would be the ultimate bonus. By the time Kira was found, he was well on his way and it just needed someone to connect the dots. He had a purpose and he had his finale.
There are some brilliant characters in this book and there are the ones that grind on your back teeth and a couple that I could have added to the killers list without blinking an eye. That is what makes his books so darn good. There aren’t just good guys and bad guys, there are ordinary people too.
Graham Smith just knocked me off my feet and on to my ass with this super book that completely took me by surprise. What a brilliant talent he is. I already feel that I know the insides of these characters though I am sure Graham Smith will prove me wrong on that in the next couple of books. Yes this isn’t a one-off there is going to be more. A superb start.
