She got into bed but sleep didn’t come easily. Every creak in the house made her alert. She was waiting for him to come and get her.
The small city of Stockleigh is in shock as three women are brutally attacked within days of each other. Are they random acts of violence or is there a link between the victims? For Detective Eden Berrisford, it’s her most chilling case yet.
The investigation leads Eden to cross paths with Carla, a woman trying to rebuild her life after her marriage to a cruel and abusive man ended in unimaginable tragedy. Her husband Ryan was imprisoned for his crimes but, now he’s out and coming for her.
As Eden starts to close in on the attacker, she also puts herself in grave danger. Can she stop him before he strikes again? And can Carla, terrified for her life, save herself – before the past wreaks a terrible revenge?
An absolutely gripping and chilling police procedural which will hook fans of Angela Marsons and Rachel Abbott.

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS AND REVIEW
I feel like I have had every bit of stuffing thoroughly kicked out of me, what an emotional and heart rendering read this is. We as woman may be equal to a lot in society these days but there are not many woman that match up to the brutal strength of a man if they are attacked. And where this ‘man’ that doesn’t deserve this title, has the advantage is in the planning before hand. His sheer presence is terrifying and it made my blood temperature sink. I felt as helpless as the victims as nothing was going to stop him. For his three victims, so far, they were just notches he could look back on but for his victims this would be character changing that remoulded who they were. Terrifyingly, with each attack his brutality grew, so were the police going to be able to stop him before someone dies and were these women somehow connected?
This was certainly a case for The Major Crimes Team, D.S. Eden Berrisford and her D.C.’s Jordan Ashcroft, Amy Nicholls and new comer Phil Sillitoe, who was not happy to be on board. It isn’t long before the story turns to domestic abuse and a local refuge where fear seems to cling to the walls and rightly so. How can you escape a creature that is more ferial than a man? Especially when he is let out of his cage.
I love Mel Sherratt’s books as she doesn’t hold back, she tackles the taboo subjects that are normally swept under the carpet and tells it all in such a way that it feels more like an account of real events rather than a story. This isn’t an over long novel but every word seems like it has been selected to give the biggest impact and well I am only just getting back up from being bowled over. This is the second book in this series and I simply don’t know how she is going to improve on this. Far the best in all her books so far. A superb read!
HERE IS A LITTLE ABOUT THE AUTHOR
TAUNTING THE DEAD is part police procedural/part psychological thriller. It has been a standalone for two years but I have now written two more books with Detective Sergeant Allie Shenton as a main character and created a new series. FOLLOW THE LEADER will be published on 10 February 2015 followed by ONLY THE BRAVE on 26 May 2015.
THE ESTATE SERIES are a mix of women’s fiction, psychological suspense and crime thriller. They are often too dark for women’s fiction alone – although the subject matters and issues are often referred to in this genre – too light in places for crime thrillers, and often not enough for the psychological suspense readers out there. They are drama meets crime.
WATCHING OVER YOU is a standalone psychological thriller. It’s dark in places, light in places, disturbing in places too – where obsession and friendship turns to murder.
I live in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, with my husband and terrier, Dexter (named after the TV serial killer) and makes liberal use of my hometown as a backdrop for some of my books.
