GILDING THE LILY by JUSTINE JOHN #Blog Tour #New release #thriller #am reading @JustineCJohn @Authoright

Firstly I would like to thank Rachael Gilbey/Authoright for inviting me to take part on this Blog Tour  for Justine John’s debut novel. It has been a pleasure.

Gilding The Lily Blurb

A gripping mystery of jealousy, murder and lies.  An invitation to her estranged, wealthy father’s surprise 75th birthday party in New York sees Amelia and her husband, Jack, set off across the pond to meet a whole new world of family politics.  Amelia, now a successful businesswoman, feels guilty about never liking her father’s women, so does her upmost to give his new socialite partner, Evelyn, the benefit of the doubt. Wouldn’t it be nice if they could just all get along? But there’s something very dark, determined and dangerous about her…  When Amelia’s father, Roger, becomes ill, Jack grows suspicious that there is more to it. Amelia understands why, but no one else will believe them. They travel back to America to piece together the puzzle, but when Roger goes missing, the couple are driven to their wits’ end. It takes a DEA officer and a secret assassin to bring them answers, but the ruthless truth is something no one expected…

What a brilliant opening to a book. Was I reading this right? Was the mourner at the graveside capable of such things as she was thinking about and who was in the grave that she had such disrespect for? My curiosity was instantly jolted I wanted to know more.

Amelia has a lovely relationship with her husband Jack, he adores her and dotes on her so much that Amelia just can’t believe her luck at times. She just wishes that so many years hadn’t been wasted on an estranged relationship with her dad since he left her mum. Now she will have the opportunity to hopefully mend bridges after receiving an invitation from her dad’s partner to go to his surprise 75th birthday party in New York. So plane tickets were booked to jet out from the UK to America where he now lived. Amelia is determined to make amends with her dad and do her utmost to befriend his partner, but someone has very different plans. Something is far from normal.

This is a super suspense thriller that manages to throw in a brilliant couple of curve balls when you least expect them. I mean you just can’t walk away from somethings can you? especially when the person you are trying to protect just can’t see what is happening under their nose. But is everybody else blind! because it sometimes feels like it is Amelia and Jack verses the world, and sometimes it seems like the world is winning. There are loads of very strong characters in this book, some which I loved and a couple that I could have dug graves for myself!  It is soooo edgy. A super debut novel from this new author.
