Two ordinary women. Two damaged lives. One friendship that would save them both
Kit Mason has lived a life of unimaginable pain. An ex-prostitute, she has fled the clutches of an abusive pimp and now finds herself living hand to mouth in a new city, without anyone to help her.
Frances Thornton seems to be living the perfect life. A lawyer from a privileged background, her perfect façade hides the painful secrets that still haunt her.
Brought together by their attempts to conquer their addictions in an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, the two women strike up an unlikely friendship.
But can they find strength in each other – or will the demons of their past catch up with them?
A compelling, moving and ultimately uplifting novel about overcoming the very worst life can throw at you and starting over. The perfect read for fans of Jodi Picoult and Amanda Prowse.
MY THOUGHTS AND REVIEW
Having read all of Angela Marsons Criminal Procedural novels in the Kim Stone Series and absolutely loved them, I was quite suprised to find that she had written a couple of books in a completely different genre.
This is a very powerful novel that brings together two very unlikely women to become friends. Kit Mason, a prostitute desperate to leave the abusive spiral she has become part of and Frances Thornton a lawyer, who has had more than her fair share of rebuffs, to put it mildly, from her mother. Both have taken comfort from the bottom of a bottle, which in turn has lead them to AA. Angela Marsons captures the feelings of both these women in alternative chapters as they tackle the pressures of every day life.
What I really liked about this novel was that Angela Marsons makes it clear that both emotional and addiction problems have no wealth or class distinction. Every person is just as vulnerable as the next. I would have liked the struggle to overcome these addictions to have been a bit more of a struggle. Having said that I loved the book and definitely rooted for the characters.
I wish to thank Netgalley and Bookouture and allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
